Kivikshusen in Österlen is built with Masonite Beams

Sätoftagruppen had initially planned to use other solutions for the construction of the unique Kivikshusen project  – 33 complete houses with outhouses and gardens. Choosing Masonite Beams drastically reduced costs and also construction times. "In addition, this is energy-efficient, sustainable and well-designed right down to the smallest detail," emphasise Lennart and Maria Modéer at Sätoftagruppen.

Sätoftagruppen has built over 500 homes in Skåne since Lennart Modéer started the company in 2005 – and the ongoing Kivikshusen project stands out as something quite unique.

–  It’s unique to build everything on a complete basis in this way – where each complete solution includes a house, an outhouse and a garden. It also requires minimal maintenance and is aimed at people who want to spend time on more exciting things than painting the house or looking after the garden, says project manager Lennart Modéer.

In the first calculation of the material to be used for the carcass, KL wood (cross-bonded wood) was used, and with all costs included, it turned out that construction would have exceeded budget by 38 per cent.

Sätoftagruppen had previous very good experience with Masonite Beams and their efficient wood-based lightweight I-joist system.

–  When we calculated the costs of using Masonite Beams in Kivikshusen, it was more than ten per cent cheaper, which is a significant difference. Together with other solutions that were now easy to adapt, the budget could be met, emphasises coordinator Maria Modéer.

Bold design thanks to well-designed solutions

In January 2023, construction started on the 33 architect-designed houses in the heart of Österlen, where the cultural landscape meets the sea.                                                                                      

–  The location is fantastic and the buildings are dynamically built with Masonite Beams' well-designed solutions and consistent high quality. The unusual shape of a dome on the roof is powerful and cool, Maria thinks.
