Timber houses with high performance acoustics and good environmental aspects

High-class acoustics, welcoming architecture and major environmental benefits. This sums up the Versus construction project in Sollentuna. – This truly innovative project deserves a mention for its acoustic performance, says Klas Hagberg, acoustics specialist at Acouwood.

Over the past five years, timber construction has increased explosively, and what we know about acoustics today is much more than we knew just five years ago. One project undertaken by MFB Academy members Vernum Fastigheter and Grönbo is the Versus project in Sollentuna. The project consists of 135 apartments spread over three building carcasses. The apartments have a lightweight beam carcass, and DinellJohansson is responsible for the architecture.

Creating opportunities to build sustainably – with high sound insulation

In mid-2023, acoustics specialists Klas Hagberg and Erik Nilsson at Acouwood conducted sound measurements for the project. The housing exhibits both a high-quality acoustic environment and major environmental benefits. Acoustics specialist Klas Hagberg from Acouwood explains:

– This building is proof that it is possible to combine sustainable construction with very high sound insulation. The project fulfils sound class B for airborne sound insulation for all partition structures. For the impact sound level between the apartments, sound class A is met.

Long-term development of building systems

The Versus project is designed in 5D with predetermined solutions prepared and developed over an extensive period by, among others, Vernum Fastigheter and Grönbo, both members of MFB Academy.

– Having worked with multi-storey timber buildings since early 1994, my conviction has always been that it is possible to build in wood and choose natural materials. As long as you set the right sound requirements. What makes Versus stand out is that Vernum Fastigheter has taken the environmental issue to a whole new level by actively choosing materials that are as sustainable as possible, says Klas Hagberg.
